Monday 9th May 2005: AZHAR gave a lecture at the Frei Akademie der Kuenste in Hamburg, the topic was on international collaborations in Architecture, as part of a conference on the subject in international collaboration and opportunities. The lecture was organised by the Budesarchitektenkammer: "Netzwerk Architekturexport" in co-operation with "Hamburgische Architektenkammer" and the "Hamburgische Ingenieurkammer-Bau"

Achim Menges and Michael Hensel), this symposium introduces a variety of approaches to manufacturing and material technologies in the building sector which have facilitated the construction of innovative and exciting building designs. Representatives of the manufacturing companies involved will present their specific approaches to complex design and production tasks.

The SmartGeometry group is a pioneer in the development and application of geometric and parametric design tools in architectural research and practice. The group has organised summer schools and workshops in parametric and geometric design principles at various venues including the AA, MIT and the ACADIA conference. Members include Lars Hesselgren (KPF), Robert Aish (Bentley), Hugh Whitehead (Foster and Partners), J Parrish (Arup Sports)

James Dyson industrialist, designer, and inventor of the famous vacuum cleaner delivers the annual lecture in memory of the broadcaster Richard Dimbleby.

He questions why we have become less interested in manufacturing and engineering at the expense of the service industries. He argues that, contrary to expectations, in the 21st century Britain needs to make some dramatic changes, both in society and in the city, to secure Britain's future
