PROJECT

Modular Roof Extension, WC1, London
Value: Classified
Office: Azhar Architecture
Client:Classified
Experience: The proposal is a modular Roof extension, the form is trapezoidal, being shaped by orientation and solar orientation. The extension consists of eight trapezoidal modules, which are lifted onto the existing flat roof of the 1950s industrial building, creating a buffer between the existing roof and building and the new fully fitted out modules, allows a cost effective solution. The roof elements are simultaneously roof lights and solar thermal panels and photo-voltaic cells.

Reusing and extending buildings comes not only from a concern of economics but also opportunities of layering the city with new forms. The efficiency of building construction in terms of minimisation of materials but also in maximising performance not only in use but also during the construction process.

The project value £600,000 and the building owner has still to make a decision.
