Project Description:

The proposal is a modular housing for Keyworkers (teachers, bus drivers
etc.) in an aggressive urban site, between a railway line and a busy road.
Environmental features, photovoltaic louvers, solar thermal panels, on
roof. Key communal facilities on ground floor, a cafe Bar, a Laundromat, a
Swimming Pool, and a Gym, in addition a roof garden is provided.

The ground floor is open to the public, and acts as a common resource as a
compliment to the "compact" living on offer within the keyworker modules
above. The building is wrapped in a "skin" consisting of a series of
louvers made from compressed "bamboo" elements, and acts as a solar and
acoustic buffer. Photo voltaic cells are attached to the louvers taking
advantage of the orientation.

The central concept is that the facilities for living are spatially
minimal, but are complimented by the maximisation of the public space by
the way of amenities.

The project value was £4million, although initially for a real site and a
real client, the project was not built.
