Bank HQ
Hamburg
Germany
Architect: Jan Stoermer &
Partners
(Azhar as Consultant
to JSP)
A competition winning bank
headquarter building for a national
bank, in the prestigious
centre of Hamburg, Neuer Wall.
The project responds to the
street conditions, solar orientation, creating a building with a strong
identity as well as being a sensitive intervention in the fabric of the
city.
This project in
collaboration with Jan Stoermer, another winner from
an invited competition, the brief was
to create a focus for a bank headquarters building in the centre of
Hamburg. The site has two faces, one to the prestigious Neuer Wall street,
and the rear to a canal.
The proposal
exploits the viewing of the building from oblique views, both from the
street and the canal, the façade is faceted to create
a differentiation, depending on which direction one travels down the
street, it has a smooth or an
articulated fenestration.
The black boxes at roof level create a focal point, and are the banks meeting rooms, they also mark the position of a “passage” at street level which creates an internal street frontage for retail, and aligns itself to a future pedestrian bridge across the canal.
